25 September 2018 Press Release – University of Southampton spin-out SouthWestSensor Ltd appoints experienced CEO

SouthWestSensor Ltd, a University of Southampton spin-out company and developer of microfluidics based sensors for environmental and health monitoring has announced the hiring of Dr. Oliver Hofmann as CEO to drive commercialisation and fund raising efforts. Dr. Hofmann has more than 15 years commercial experience in the medical diagnostics industry covering a variety of senior technical, operational and business development roles. Most recently he was a Senior Investment Manager at Inventages, a leading global healthcare venture capital fund.
Dr. Niu, Associate Professor and Founder of SouthWestSensor comments ‘We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Hofmann on board. The hire of an industry veteran of his calibre shows our resolve to take the next step towards commercialisation of our ground breaking nanodroplet based technology, which allows high frequency measurement of chemical and biological markers.’
‘I am delighted to join Dr. Niu and his great team at this exciting time for the company. Excellent progress has already been made in translating the nanodroplet based technology into a compact autonomous and low cost water sensor to detect nutrients and pollution. Short term focus will be on launching a first environmental product line whilst also fine tuning the healthcare proposition, where a wearable chemical sensor for acute care is under development. Looking forward to interacting with the excellent clinical and tech transfer partners at Southampton and would like to thank the existing shareholders for their continued support.‘
A welcome event will be held in Hartley Lounge, Building 38, Highfield Campus on Thursday, 4th Oct, 16:00 to 18:00.
