About the role:

Purpose of the role

The purpose of the role is to develop components and systems for the company’s and our customers’ products. These are predominantly in micropumping, microfluidics but may also include system integration and product mass production.

The development engineer is required to take component concepts or process ideas and to work as part of a team to bring them into reality. This will include working with CAD design, FEA analysis, machine specification, tool making and various production techniques. The development engineer will sometimes undertake these tasks directly and sometimes work with a more experienced member of the company who will support them with their expertise. Ideally the development engineer will take responsibility for a signed-up project and deliver all of the technical elements of that project. This will involve either personal delivery or working with subject matter experts within the business in order to get things done. The role holder is expected to be constantly developing and learning, seeing new challenges as a chance to learn and develop by working with others and pushing themselves. Additionally the role will include review of these designs and contribution towards improvements in the designs produced.

Expected Skills and Qualifications:

  • – Design from concept and early prototype through to manufacture. This includes designing components and assemblies
  • – Testing the product
  • – Evaluating performance, reliability and safety of the products
  • – Creating documentation and reports
  • – Being able to travel occasionally for business both domestically and internationally

Ideally you will have the following background:

  • – Degree educated in an engineering or science related subject
  • – Experience with medical device development ideally IVD / diagnostic experience
  • – Experience with mechanical engineering, instrumentation, microfluidics and materials
  • – Strong 3D CAD background
  • – Experience with design for manufacture
  • – Experience with 13485 or similar


The Company will provide pension and pay a competitive salary based on the experience of the successful candidate.


The standard holiday allowance for all employees is 25 days annual leave in addition to the statutory bank holidays

Hours of work:

The role is based on a standard 37 ½ hour week. The company will consider flexible working patterns within the operational requirements of the role.
